VMware ACE enables desktop administrators to package an IT managed PC image within a policy managed virtual machine and deploy it to any physical PC. The package mentioned is either a tar.gz package (in case of linux) or a MSI-package (windows, duh). This MSI package can then be distributed with tools like Microsoft SMS/SCCM (System Center Configuration Manager). You can even run ACE on portable media like usb-sticks and so replace your stack of laptops you used to lend to customers.
