This week I received an email from an vmware employee with a link to an article about Microsoft Windows Longhorn’s Virtualization product called Viridian. The article stated that at MMS2007 Microsoft Spokesman Bob Muglia annouced that Viridian is delayed with a period of six months (180 days). Reading the article it suggested it was news. (
ITPRO article)
However as far as I could recall it, the period was already announced before Microsoft’s Tech-Ed:IT-Forum took place in november 2006.
In October 2006 I visited a Technet In-Track meeting covering Virtual Server, it was then when I first heard about the delay: Viridium will be made available 180 days after the introduction of Longhorn Server.
Luckily (for me not having to question my memory) this article started some
discussion in which this was confirmed again.
Every year VMware organizes events, of which the TSX(Technical Solutions Exchange)-Europe is the only multi-day event which takes place in Europe.

Only a couple of days left before my first visit to a TSX-event is a fact.
Flight, hotel and event payment is confirmed so what can possibly go wrong?
Fortunately the flight wont be too long, the trip to the airport probably takes more time than the flight itself.
Just made the reservation for the parking at the airport. So I’am ready to roll.
I hope I will find the time and facilities to do some posting between the sessions.
I have a couple of interest areas, first of all the two-part best practices sessions about ESX might be interesting, second the automated install of ESX sounds good, because in a couple of weeks we will have to get a couple of them online.
Also VCB, Lab manager and VDI will get some of my attention.
A colleague of mine who’s currently attending MMS2007 in San Diego attended a demo-session in which Microsoft showed their own conversion tool to perform P2V migrations. Read more in his post.
Microsoft will introduce V2V for VM ware
At MMS 2007 during a demo about System Center Virtualisation Manager the productmanager showed a wizard-driven P-2- V (Physical to Virtual) mechanism for Virtual Server based on Longhorn server. Kind of kinky was a option to do a VM ware to Virtual Server migration for all systems hosted on a VM solution to Longhorn based Virtual Server called Veridian.
For some time I had plans to start a Blog. But just as a lot of people rigth now without a Blog, I never found (read made) the time to create one. I always enjoyed bringin news, so this is a medium ideal for that. The last year I’ve been focussing on Virtualization. Mostly VMware oriented, but I am not restricting myself to VMware alone. Knowing that Microsoft’s trying to fill the gap with Longhorn and beyond that I will closely watch their moves also.
Hope you have fun reading this!
